that former cia director david petraeus will testify before the senate intelligence committee tomorrow. that information is coming to us from kelly o'donnell who spoke to a veteran senator on capitol hill and, of course, it comes as some tough questions are expected today for president obama. he's giving his first news conference since being re-elected. he will meet the press at 1:0 this afternoon and probably should be prepared to answer some tough questions about general petraeus and allen and the fbi investigation as well as libya, not to mention the fiscal cliff and we're learning more about the woman who knew both general, tampa socialite jill kelley. a senior defense official says the e-mails between the two were more than just calling one another sweetheart, they were flirtatious and unprofessional. both of them wrote letters vouching for her sister in a child custody case and she made this phone call claiming she had some sort of diplomatic status which she does not. >> i am an honorary consul-general so i have unveilability so i should -- they should not be going across my pro

that david petraeus of course who resigned as the director of cia last week amid the sex scandal. he gave testimony behind closed doors to both the house and senate intelligence committees yesterday. afterwards members intimated that petraeus after the attacks in benghazi that resulted in the deaths of four including the ambassador, there were terrorist elements involved, this was some sort of coordinated attack. the question has become what changed. did the white house or the state department go in and change those assessments, make them more palatable, de-emphasize the terrorist nature of that. today a senior official aboard air force one said absolutely not. basically they said it's only natural that in the days after the attack the intel committee would quote sort through different pieces of intelligence. the official asserts those adjustments made by the intel community to assessments and talking points are quote unquote common and the quote unquote natural progression as the situation unfolded more information became out. the white house said twice they were very clear on this the o

: that's right. this is a group of officials from the cia including the acting cia director, mr. clapper and others from the state department have been going around. they had a very long meeting on the house side for the house intelligence committee this morning. by the way, this is the one that general petraeus was supposed to be doing coming back after congress was gone and really giving them the details that they have about what happened in benghazi, why the intelligence community may have not had the correct initial information about what happened there and what they know now. that briefing on the senate side is going on as we speak. and as i mentioned, we're going to hear from the chairwoman in the ranking republican. what we do know is that they are seeing a video that was obtained from the consulate. it was a closed circuit video that intelligence officials are hoping will shed light on what really happened and why the information they had at the time may not be what it turned out to be in the end. >> dana, thanks very much. we'll have much more on this part of the story coming up

line. the state department put out a time line. the cia put out a time line or its version of events during attacks and in the aftermath. but what we don't have a good sense of is where the president of the united states was from minute to minute. i think the republicans will insist on that and i think they should. bill: he said he issues his directives immediately after the attack and during attack. where does that take you? where do you end up? >> that's the key question. when the president of the united states issues a directive, everybody flies into action. the military records what he told them to do, what they have been instructed to do and from that follows a series of steps and people execute his directives. we need to know what the directive was, who it was given to what they did with it. the president said he instructed every bit of help be provided to the people on the ground there. we know that didn't happen. we need a better accounting of why that didn't happen if the president said it should have. bill: there is a statement today at 1:00. i'm not sure there will be ques
